HQ., U.S. 24th Inf. Div., Korea — Medical Co., 19th Inf. Regt., fought a “battle” last week in a test of its ability to defend itself against a surrounding force of airborne aggressors.
Assuming the dual role of medic-infantrymen, the men evacuated the company administrative area, set up a collecting station in the field and maintained a defensive perimeter against the “aggressors” — the 19th Inf. Regt. I & R Platoon.
Cooks and drivers became riflemen, ambulances swooshed down icy slopes to the collecting station, and litter sections breached barbed wire fences to recover frontline casualties on snow-covered hills. They set up a defense around a copter strip to evacuate the “wounded.”
