Since the Pentagon announced in mid-January its intent to “refocus” the content of Stars and Stripes, the public backlash has grown stronger and broader every day.
Given the overall press restrictions and the moves to take over editorial control of Stars and Stripes, the future of the reputable newspaper that dates to the Civil War is in danger.
The resolution was referred to the Judiciary Committee where I hope it is approved and will be sent to the full Senate for a positive vote. It will underscore the importance historically and today of Stars and Stripes delivering uncensored, balanced news to the American military community around the world.
