RAMSTEIN AIR BASE, Germany – The Stuttgart Panthers will get a chance at redemption when they face Ramstein on Thursday for the DODEA-Europe Division I title in girls’ soccer.

Stuttgart brought an explosive offense and stifling defense to its semifinal match Wednesday against SHAPE, shutting out the Spartans 7-0 to advance to the finals for a second year in a row.

The undefeated Royals, meanwhile, in their semifinal on Wednesday, earned the chance to defend their title in a 5-2 victory against a tenacious Kaiserslautern squad.

The outcome sets up a rematch of the 2024 championship game, which the Royals took 4-1. SHAPE and Kaiserslautern will face off in the consolation match for third place.

“We are excited, we are ready, we are prepared, and we expect a good solid soccer game tomorrow - and a win,” Ramstein coach Frances Watson said.

The Royals had to overcome an early mistake to punch their ticket to the finals. Kaiserslautern got on the board first – only 13 minutes into the game - after a Ramstein player mistakenly hit the ball into the Royals’ goal cage on a free kick by Kaiserslautern’s Ryann Phillips.

“One of our players went to hit it out and it just skimmed the top of her head and popped right over our goalie,” Watson said. “It was just an accident.”

The Royals didn’t lose their focus, despite the misstep. About 15 minutes later, Ramsten junior Isabelle Donkin launched the ball over Kaiserslautern goalkeeper Jada Hollis on an open look from about 20 yards out to even the score.

“My teammate, Stella (Alderink) made a great through ball to me. I had the shot and scored it,” Donkin said.

“It felt great,” she added. “I think a lot of my team was really hyped about it, because we made it 1-1 and it brought our energy back to come back and win the game.”

The Royals went up 2-1 seconds before the first half ended on a chip shot from senior forward Claire Boynton, shortly after Hollis had blocked her one-on-one attempt at the goal. Four minutes into the second half, Ramstein sophomore forward Audrey Singer made it 3-1. Kaiserslautern made it a game again with a Georgia Rawcliffe goal, but subsequent goals by Donkin and Boynton put the game away for the Royals.

The Raiders will go into Thursday’s consolation match against SHAPE with their heads held high, coach Maggie Phillips said.

“I thought they did fantastic,” she said of her team’s effort against Ramstein. “It was one of our strongest games yet.”

The team was tired from Tuesday’s doubleheader in the sun, the coach added, “so we had that playing against us. But I’m really happy with the performance.”

In the earlier semifinal match, Stuttgart got on the board seven minutes into the game – and never looked back. Sophomore forward Sienna Ingle nabbed four goals in the match, while senior Meredith Fleming, freshman Klaryssa Lemery and sophomore Madeleine Fleming chipped in a goal apiece.

“I think it was a good team effort,” Stuttgart assistant coach Chris Kelly said. “A lot of people were scoring; it’s going to take an effort like that tomorrow if we want to be successful.”

Added Ingle: “I think we worked really well together. I’m more excited than nervous about tomorrow, just confident that we can play our best.”
