Judge maintains Detroit-area veteran’s claim of sexual pursuit against VA psychiatrist

A U.S. district judge ruled last week that a VA psychiatrist can be sued personally by Marine veteran Trey Cholewa on his claims she initiated an intimate relationship with him while he was being treated in 2017, and that he can sue the federal government. The law firm representing Cholewa said the ruling was a victory “for veterans nationwide who’ve faced abuse.”

VA research stalls under federal hiring freeze

The Department of Veterans Affairs has been closely intertwined with academic medicine and research since just after World War II, when innovative partnerships were developed to treat the influx of injured soldiers returning from the war. But researchers and administrators around the country are now dealing with “unintended consequences” of a federal hiring freeze, which has left some studies unable to proceed without essential personnel.
