U.S. military units assisted the Guam Fire Department in extinguishing a brush fire Wednesday on Mount Santa Rosa.
Helicopter Sea Combat Squadron 25 and the Navy Fire Department joined fire units from Andersen Air Force Base to help battle the blaze that spread over 30 acres, a Guam Fire Department spokesman said.
According to the Joint Region Marianas Public Affairs Office, one helicopter released water onto the affected area, and personnel from the Navy Fire Department’s Engine 5 Unit assisted Guam and Air Force firefighters on the ground.
Guam fire units from Yigo, Dededo and Astumbo fire stations rushed to the scene with a 5,000-gallon water tanker. The Air Force dispatched a 10,000-gallon tanker, the Guam official said. The fire was reported at 12:20 p.m. and declared extinguished at 5:30 p.m.
The cause of the fire is under investigation by Guam, officials said.
