Looking for live music, quirky traditions or dinosaurs that roar? From asparagus royalty to anime cosplay and fizzy local wines, this weekend’s events deliver a little something for everyone. Here’s what’s happening in the Kaiserslautern Military Community June 13-15.
Grill and Schorlefeschd: We’re not slurring our words! Schorles are the star at this fizzy, food-filled feschd, a regional pronunciation of “fest,” in Deidesheim on Friday from 6 p.m., on Saturday from 3 p.m., and Sunday from 11 a.m. Celebrate 10 years of grilled bites, cool wines and sparkling spritzers. Free admission.
Spargel Fest: Quirky charm, live tunes and mountains of white asparagus take center stage at this fibrous festival in Lampertheim on Friday from 2 p.m., on Saturday from 1 p.m., and Sunday from 10 a.m. Known as the royal vegetable, spargel has made this town world famous for more than 100 years. Don’t miss the peeling contest or the crowning of the Asparagus Queen, a summer tradition that started in 1965. Free admission.
Hat Makers’ Festival: Once a major hub for hat production, Kusel tips its cap to tradition at this lively open-air fest on Friday and Saturday from 7 p.m. to midnight, and Sunday from 1 p.m. to 6 p.m. Live music, street eats and family fun await. Admission is free.
Asian Garden Fantasy and Roleplay: Cosplay, karaoke and martial arts demos bring the energy to this vibrant culture fest in Finkenrech on Saturday from 1 p.m. to 10 p.m. and Sunday from 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. Designed as a cozy gathering rather than a large-scale convention, it’s a hidden gem for fans of Asian pop culture. Admission is 2 euros per person.
Jurassic Expo: Roaring dinos and high-voltage thrills drive the excitement at this prehistoric spectacle in Trier on Saturday and Sunday starting at 2 p.m. Giant animatronic creatures and a live-action show bring the age of the dinosaurs to life. Perfect for families and fossil fans alike. Admission is 10 euros; children under 3 enter free.
