Westpfalz Police on Friday targeted speeders and distracted drivers around schools, day care centers and on critical roadways following the Easter holidays.

Traffic control teams stationed at 10 locations across the Kaiserslautern district monitored 4,604 vehicles, issuing penalties for 360 speed-related offenses, police said in a statement. No driving bans were required for these infractions, but the offenders will face fines and warnings, according to officials.

Police also specifically targeted route L401 between Sembach and Mehlingen on a Thursday afternoon, monitoring approximately 120 vehicles and detecting 32 speed violations in just two hours. Notably, one driver was clocked at 119 kph in a 70 kph zone and faces a fine of approximately 350 euros, a multi-week driving ban and points on his license.

Distracted driving was also a focus, with six drivers caught using their mobile phones while driving. They’re expected to receive points on their licenses and fines.
