German police are looking for witnesses to an accident around 8 a.m. Wednesday in downtown Kaiserslautern.

A collision at the junction of Maxstrasse, Lauterstrasse, and Ludwigstrasse, near Kaiserslautern’s Japanese Garden, caused significant delays in the morning commute, according to Westpfalz Police.

The driver of an Audi reportedly ran a red light while traveling on Lauterstrasse towards Ludwigstrasse. The 33-year old then collided with a VW Sharan that was coming from the opposite direction and attempting to turn left onto Maxstrasse. No injuries were reported but the collision resulted in at least 30,000 euros in damage, police said in a statement. Both vehicles were rendered inoperable and were subsequently towed.

The accident occurred during peak traffic hours and led to extensive congestion and increased waiting times for commuters.

The Kaiserslautern Police Department has initiated an investigation and is appealing to the public for witness reports via 0631 369 2250.
