Security force on Ramstein Air Base had a busy Monday night after a white van towing a vehicle attempted to drive on base through the west gate, according to base officials. Security Forces responded at about 8:40 p.m., said a joint statement Tuesday from the 86th Airlift Wing and 86th Security Forces Squadron. The three people in the van were detained until German police arrived. Landstuhl police responded by identifying and checking the three individuals in the van and later released the group. The incident was reportedly attributed to a navigation error caused by a misdirection from the driver’s navigation system and did not pose a security risk, Westpfalz Police said. The incident caused a long traffic backup at the gate, according to motorists who took to local Facebook groups to complain about the delay.
