WASHINGTON — One soldier was killed and another was injured in a helicopter training crash at Fort Campbell, Ky., the base announced Thursday.
The incident involving two service members happened at about 7 p.m. Wednesday in the Fort Campbell training area, the 101st Airborne Division said in a statement. Emergency services responded immediately. One soldier was confirmed dead while the other was taken to Blanchfield Army Community Hospital and was in stable condition.
The soldiers’ names are being withheld until 24 hours after next of kin notifications. The incident is under investigation.
“I am devastated by the loss of a Fort Campbell soldier last night who tragically passed during an aviation training exercise,” Sen. Marsha Blackburn, R-Tenn., posted on X. “Lifting up this service member’s family in prayer today and will continue to monitor this situation.”
In March 2023, two HH-60 Black Hawk helicopters assigned to the 101st Airborne collided during a nighttime training flight about 30 miles northwest of Fort Campbell, killing all nine soldiers aboard. Fort Campbell is an Army post located along the Kentucky-Tennessee border.
