Since 1999, Tübingen, Germany, has taken advantage of its location along the Neckar River to hold an unusual race involving rubber ducks. Saturday at 2 p.m., people will chuck thousands of them into the river by the Alleenbrücke. About 45 minutes later, the fleetest of the flock will emerge victorious downstream by the Neckarbrücke. At about 3:15 p.m., the tracking numbers of the lucky winning ducks are announced.
About 400 prizes are up for grabs, including airline tickets, balloon rides and discount vouchers. Top prize is a travel voucher worth 1,000 euros.
Watch or get in on the action by buying a racing duck — or several — for 3 euros each, available on race day. Racers need to get their little yellow friends to the starting line no later than 1 p.m.
Proceeds go to charitable causes, including sponsorship of a school in Nepal. Read more at http://tinyurl.com/9cwh6dc.
