ROYAL OAK, Mich. (Tribune News Service) — Trial is scheduled for a former U.S. airman charged with multiple sex crimes in three separate cases.

Ian Mitchell Wilson, 22, is facing one count of first-degree criminal sexual conduct, five counts of third-degree criminal sexual conduct, four counts of fourth-degree criminal sexual conduct and one count of assault with intent to commit sexual penetration. Jury selection is scheduled to begin Oct. 30 in Oakland County Circuit Court. Judge Mary Ellen Brennan will preside over the trial.

Wilson, of Independence Township, was initially charged for allegedly assaulting a woman at a New Year’s Eve gathering on Jan. 1, 2021. Investigators subsequently linked him to other sexual assaults in Oakland County dating back to 2017.

After the Oakland County Prosecutor’s Office issued a warrant for Wilson’s arrest in February 2021, Las Vegas police were to take him into custody when he reported for his shift at Nellis Air Force Base. However, he didn’t show up for work, so a federal desertion warrant was issued.

Wilson, who joined the U.S. Air Force in 2018, was arrested Feb. 11, 2021 as he attempted to cross the border into Canada from Washington state. He was extradited to Michigan a few weeks later.

For now, Wilson is out on bond.
