TOKYO — The Camp Zama Dining Facility was recognized by base officials Friday as one of the U.S. Army’s best during a ceremony celebrating the facility’s win of a prestigious Phillip A. Connelly Award.

The annual competition is part of an Army-wide program to promote and improve Army food service, according to an Army news release. Dining facilities are evaluated in 20 different categories – including rations, equipment and sanitation – and are given a score in each based on their performance. The winners of the competition were announced Dec. 20.

Camp Zama won the Connelly Award in the small garrison category. The Pegasus Inn Dining Facility, 82nd Combat Aviation Brigade, 82nd Airborne Division, Fort Bragg, N.C., was the runner-up.

Here’s a list of other winners:

* Large Garrison — The Freedom Inn Dining facility at Fort Meade, Md.; Runner-up: Patton’s Own Dining Facility, Camp As-Sayliyah, Qatar.

* Active Army Field — 126th Transportation Company, 330th Transportation Battalion, Fort Bragg, N.C.; Runner-up: 55th Military Police Company, 94th Military Police Battalion, Camp Stanley, Korea

* U.S. Army Reserve Field — 824th Quartermaster Company, 362nd Quartermaster Battalion Fort Bragg, N.C.; Runner-up: 1011th Quartermaster Company, 329th Combat Service Support Battalion, Independence, Kansas

U.S. National Guard Field — Forward Support Company, 216th Engineer Battalion, Cincinnati, Ohio; Runner-up: Forward Support Company, 130th Engineer Battalion Vega Baja, Puerto Rico
