FORT SHAFTER, Hawaii — A 23-year-old man died of his wounds following a weekend shooting at a Navy installation in central Oahu, the Army said Sunday in Hawaii.
A soldier assigned to the 25th Infantry Division’s Sustainment Brigade, Hawaii, is in custody in connection with the shooting around 5:45 p.m. Saturday at the Naval Computer and Telecommunications Area Master Station Pacific in Wahiawa, the Army said in a news release.
The shooting occurred at the housing section of the telecommunications station, according to the Army release. The 23-year-old died at an area medical center, the Army said.
The Army has not identified either individual.
The Army described the shooting as an “isolated incident” that posed no further threat to the installation or surrounding community. The installation is about five miles east of Schofield Barracks.
The Army Criminal Investigation Division is investigating the incident, the Army said. CID did not respond to a written query by Stars and Stripes.
The housing at the telecommunications installation is available to all service branches.
Naval Computer and Telecommunications Area Master Station Pacific has installations in Oahu, Puget Sound, Wash., Guam and San Diego.
Its roughly 760 personnel contribute to the Navy’s information warfare capabilities by operating, maintaining, securing and defending the Navy’s networks.
