Don Miller, a mathematics and computer science teacher who spent more than three decades serving Defense Department students overseas, died Saturday at his home in Camas, Wash. He was 80.
The cause of death was high-diffuse glioblastoma grade 4, diagnosed in February, daughter Ginny Miller said Monday by Messenger. His wife, Jung Won, was by his side. The couple had celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary on May 16.
Born in Detroit on Sept. 6, 1944, Miller was raised in Michigan, his daughter said. He earned a bachelor’s degree from Michigan State University and later received a master’s degree in mathematics from Stanford University.
Miller began teaching at Pusan American School in South Korea in 1971 at Camp Hialeah, where he spent more than 30 years educating students in math and computer science, his daughter said. In 2004, he transferred to RAF Lakenheath in England, where he concluded his teaching career in 2007.
In addition to his wife, survivors include another daughter, Sara; a sister and two brothers; and five grandchildren.
Instead of a traditional funeral, Ginny Miller said her father’s body will undergo soil transformation, an alternative to burial and cremation. A celebration of life will be held at a later date.
