The Air Force said no one was injured Wednesday afternoon when front landing gear retracted on a KC-135 Stratotanker parked at McConnell Air Force Base, Kansas.

“Aircrew had disembarked prior to the incident,” the base said in a statement posted that evening on social media. “Two maintainers were on board the aircraft and three others were near the aircraft at the time of the incident, but no one was injured.”

McConnell’s emergency responders remain at the scene, the statement said.

“Today our Emergency Response Airmen put their training to this real-world test, and I am extremely proud of how they conducted themselves and performed their duties,” Col. Cory Damon, commander of the 22nd Air Refueling Wing, said in the statement. “Other flying operations at McConnell remain unhindered by this incident.”

An investigation is ongoing, according to the statement.
