CAMP HUMPHREYS, South Korea — A memorial service for Humphreys West Elementary School teacher and Army veteran Eric Chipps is scheduled this week at the home of U.S. Forces Korea.

“All are welcome to say goodbye, especially former students,” at 4 p.m. Thursday at Freedom Chapel, according to a Monday post on Humphreys’ official Facebook page.

Chipps died May 11, according to the post.

Officials from Humphreys West and Department of Defense Education Activity-Pacific did not respond to requests for further information by phone and email Tuesday.

Chipps, 64, a native of Chesterville, Ohio, attended West Chester University in Pennsylvania, according to his Facebook page.

His 24-year teaching career included stints at DODEA schools in Japan and Germany, according to his LinkedIn profile. He also served in the Army as an electronic intelligence analyst for over 20 years.

Humphreys West is one of four schools on the base. The others are Humphreys Central Elementary School, Humphreys Middle School and Humphreys High School.

David Choi is based in South Korea and reports on the U.S. military and foreign policy. He served in the U.S. Army and California Army National Guard. He graduated from the University of California, Los Angeles.
