If confirmed, Lt. Gen. Douglas A. Schiess would succeed Gen. Chance Saltzman, who has led the Space Force since November 2022 and is expected to retire this year.

Nearly 250 Air Force reservists have been selected to transfer to the Space Force this summer, becoming the service’s first part-time guardians.
