High school pitchers in the Pacific theater have now thrown a dozen no-hitters this season after two more were recorded Wednesday.
American School In Japan’s Billy Freund blanked Nile C. Kinnick 8-0 Wednesday in the final of the Kanto Plain baseball tournament at Yokosuka Naval Base’s Berkey Field.
It was the junior right-hander’s second complete-game no-hitter this season and he has been involved in three total, two against St. Mary’s in addition to Wednesday’s gem.
Freund struck out 12 and didn’t allow a walk, throwing 51 strikes out of 64 pitches. He helped himself by hitting a double and a home run
In the Kanto softball tournament at ASIJ’s Mustang Valley, senior right-hander Zaylee Gubler fired her second no-hitter of the season as Yokota shut out ASIJ 16-0 in the semifinal, the first game of the day.
Gubler also helped herself at the plate, smacking a triple and a home run, driving in one run.
