In the wake of Super Typhoon Mawar’s passing over Guam last week, Saturday’s island football championship game pitting Guam High vs. Father Duenas Memorial has been postponed, league officials announced Friday.

“Due to major power outages and damages due to Typhoon Mawar, the Football Championship has been postponed until further notice,” Interscholastic Sports Association director Marvin L. Linder said in a statement, a copy of which was obtained by Stripes.

Guam High (7-1) is to face six-time defending league champion Father Duenas (8-0) in the championship game once fields are safe to play and both teams are ready, Linder said.

“Safety of athletes and facility usage are pertinent at this time,” Linder said.
