Division I

NILE C. KINNICK RED DEVILS

2021-22 season record — 14-0 overall, 9-0 DODEA-Japan, won DODEA-Japan tournament title.

Head coach — Joseph White, third season.

Key performers — Amyka Jones, Sr., G-F; Mikaila Joy Miranda, Sr., G.; Jasmine Pho, So., G; Kotone Turner, Jr., F; Kamiyah Dabler, Fr., F.

Outlook — Rebuilding-reloading. Lost some size, but plenty of speed and ballhandling remain.

Division II

E.J. KING COBRAS

2021-22 season record — 13-3 overall, 7-2 DODEA-Japan, second in DODEA-Japan tournament.

Head coach — McKinzy Best, third season.

Key performers — Moa Best, So., G; Miu Best, So., G; Aileen FitzGerald, Sr., F; Maliwan Schinker, Jr., F.

Outlook — Reloading-contending. As is typical for a Cobras team, they lack size, but they’re heavy on guards, speed and quickness. Schinker is one tough customer underneath.

ROBERT D. EDGREN EAGLES

2021-22 season record — 6-7 overall, 3-3 DODEA-Japan.

Head coach — Joseph Ross, first season.

Key performers — Maliyah Magat, Sr., G; Zalea Washington, Sr., G; I’lea Washington, So., G; Amaya Ross, So., F; Kaitlyn Willets, So., C.

Outlook — Rebuilding-reloading. Overall, a young squad with seven freshmen, but experience at the guard spots with some height.

MATTHEW C. PERRY SAMURAI

2021-22 season record — 0-12 overall, 0-8 DODEA-Japan.

Head coach — Joshua Henry, first season.

Key performers — Aiya Versoza, Sr., G; Cecilia Campbell, Sr., G; Aiana Bulan-Marisse, So., F; Nyla Matos, Sr., SF; Ivanelis Nieves-Burmedez, So., G; Sophia Nye, Jr., C.

Outlook — Rebuilding. Plenty of returners; just need that breakthrough first victory since before the COVID pandemic to provide a confidence boost. Plenty of experience in the backcourt, with some promising players in the paint.

YOKOTA PANTHERS

2021-22 season record — 4-9 overall, 2-3 DODEA-Japan.

Head coach — Byron Wrenn, fifth season.

Key performers — Charlotte Rhyne, So., PF; Erica Haas, So., G; Hailey Riddels, Jr., G; Beverly Gardner, So., SF (transferred from Colorado Springs, Colo.).

Outlook — Building. Like most teams, still rebounding from the loss of the COVID year and starting over. Not much height on this guard-heavy Panthers unit.

ZAMA TROJANS

2021-22 season record — 2-8 overall, 1-5 DODEA-Japan.

Head coach — Veronica Tipton-Jones, second season.

Key performers — Kierstyn Aumua, Jr., F; Deborah McClendon, Jr., F-G; Kaitlyn McAbee, Sr., F-C; Isabella Rivera Munoz, So., G-F; Lyndsey So., Jr., G; Naviah Blizzard, Jr., G; Olivia Parish, Jr.; Juliet Bitor, So.; Lorelei Holt, So.

Outlook — Rebuilding-reloading. Taking a while to rebound from the coronavirus cancellation year and starting over a year ago. Solid athletes with promise, some of whom played volleyball for Jones.
