ALCONBURY, England – Alconbury recorded its first Division II victory in memorable fashion Saturday, scoring all of its points in the second half and using a fourth-quarter safety to squeak by visiting AFNORTH 15-14. Trailing 6-0 at the break, the Dragons outscored the Lions 13-0 in the third quarter to pull ahead. AFNORTH scored a touchdown and two-point conversion in the final minute to trim the deficit to a single point, but Alconbury handled an AFNORTH onside kick attempt to end clinch the victory. The Dragons, after opening the season with a loss to powerhouse Bitburg and a second-week bye, will look to build on their newfound momentum Sept. 28 at Baumholder. The small United Kingdom school went 2-4 in nine-man Division III play last season. AFNORTH draws Bitburg for a home game the same day.
