Bitburg

Last week: Roberson, a 6-foot-3 senior small/power forward, scored 28 points and grabbed 11 rebounds in Bitburg’s 72-60 victory Friday over previously unbeaten Wiesbaden. He followed that with a 24-point, 10-rebound outing in Saturday’s 56-38 victory over of Mannheim as the Barons evened their record at 2-2 going into the holiday break.

Bitburg coach Terrence Hoffman wasn’t all that surprised by Roberson’s production.

“We know he’s our best shooter,” Hoffman said by telephone Sunday. “He shoots the three and has a nice mid-range jumper you don’t see much anymore. Nowadays, everyone works on the three-pointer instead of the mid-range shot.”

Last weekend’s performances were semi-breakout games for Roberson, in his first season with the Barons. Hoffman said Roberson had been averaging around 19 points in his first two games, both Bitburg losses.

Roberson, who was born in Bitburg, has taken charge in his first season in the Eifel.

“The team feeds off him all the time,” Hoffman said. “He’s one of our leaders.”

Würzburg

Last week: Goodman, a junior, fired a DODDS-Europe record 291 out of a possible 300 points in winning a four-team meet at Mannheim on Saturday.

According to her coach, John Freeman, a 291 score means that Goodman placed 21 of her 30 shots from a sophisticated air rifle within the 10-point, bulls-eye ring. Goodman put all 10 of her shots from the prone position into the bulls-eye, four of 10 into the bulls-eye from the standing position and five of 10 from the kneeling position.

Goodman, who qualified for the Eastern regional meet last year at Fort Benning, Ga., posted a winning 287 at last year’s European meet, her first time at that event. That score, which helped Würzburg to the team title, was two points lower than her previous personal best, also set last year.

Next up for Goodman and her eagle-eyed Wolves is a four-way meet at Ansbach on Jan. 13.

Goodman and Würzburg will attempt to defend their European titles Jan. 27 at Patch High School in Vaihingen, Germany.
