Memorial Day is largely seen as the start of summer for so many people. But it’s really important because it’s the one day we salute the men and women who have died serving our country, in memorium.

I know that lots of people will be out having great times with families and friends, taking trips, maybe going to the beach. Take a moment just to remember, not just the men and women who died serving this country, but also their families who lost a loved one in service of this country.

It’s not just our men and women in uniform who serve. Their families served as well so this Memorial Day, I’m thinking of them.

Elizabeth Vargas is a TV journalist and host of “Elizabeth Vargas Reports” on NewsNation. She grew up in a military family as her father served in the U.S. Army.
