Maj. Gen. Thomas S. Vandal (U.S. Army)
CAMP RED CLOUD, South Korea — The 2nd Infantry Division has scheduled a change-of-command ceremony for June 24 to welcome its new commander, Maj. Gen. Thomas S. Vandal.
Vandal currently serves as director of operations, readiness and mobilization for the Army’s Office of the Deputy Chief of Staff in Washington, D.C.
He will replace Maj. Gen. Edward Cardon, who has led the 2ID here since September 2011. Cardon’s next destination has not been announced.
Most of 2ID’s 10,000 soldiers are stationed in South Korea between Seoul and the Demilitarized Zone.
Vandal also served as commandant of the U.S. Army Field Artillery School at Fort Sill, Okla., in December 2010–October 2011; deputy commanding general (support) for the 3rd Infantry Division (Mechanized)/Multi-National Division–North in Iraq in October 2009–November 2010, and commander of the U.S. Army Joint Multinational Readiness Center in Germany in July 2005–June 2008.
