BAMBERG, Germany –— Six Bamberg High School students who are part of the Junior Reserve Officer Training Corps team won a slot to attend the Army Leadership Symposium in Washington D.C. in June.
Cadet Sgt. Lauren Moyer, Cadet Staff Sgt. Brice Burchett, Cadet 1st Lt. Alexis Jennings, Cadet Sgt. Mary Marshall and Cadet Sgt. Maj. Theotis McGray are headed to the symposium, where they will join students from 48 other school teams enrolled in the JROTC program.
The George C. Marshall JROTC Leadership Symposium is held at George Mason University in conjunction with the annual Academic Bowl, according to the U.S. Army JROTC Academic Challenge and College Options Foundation Web site. The symposium focuses on enhancing the JROTC citizenship mission and addressing key topics based on the principles of leadership, integrity, selfless service and character, said retired Maj. Madonna Roberts, the JROTC instructor at the Bamberg school.
To earn an invite to the symposium, team members had to compete against some 20,000 students from 2,300 teams worldwide.
