A new commander took over U.S. Army Garrison Baden-Württemberg in Germany on Friday.
Col. William C. Butcher took command of the garrison in a ceremony at Patrick Henry Village in Heidelberg. He replaces Col. Robert Ulses.
Butcher, a former infantry officer turned civil affairs officer, was last assigned as a fellow with the Atlantic Council to the Army War College.
Ulses, who spent two years as garrison commander, will become chief of staff for U.S. Forces Afghanistan.
The garrison, in Heidelberg, provides support and supervision for USAG Heidelberg, U.S. Army Garrison Mannheim and U.S. Army Garrison Kaiserslautern. It is also where U.S. Army Europe and IMCOM-Europe Region are located.
