WASHINGTON — Tunes 4 the Troops has close to 150,000 CDs and DVDs ready to ship to servicemembers around the globe.

What the group doesn’t have is any place to ship them.

The charity, launched by Tennessee teen Kaylee Radzyminski, has distributed more than 500,000 discs to military bases worldwide, and is planning on sending out thousands more care packages later this month.

But Kaylee’s mother, Stephanie, said the group is down to just a few dozen addresses of military contacts who can accept the packages.

The group ships the boxes of donated movies and music to MWR workers, chaplains or anyone running overseas recreation centers. Military rules prohibit sending care packages without a specific recipient, and the Radzyminskis said sending a few discs to individual troops would be too expensive and inefficient.

But chaplains and activities organizers have been able to make sure the goodies are shared among large groups of deployed servicemembers, Stephanie Radzyminski said.

Over the last two years the group has distributed more than 3,000 care packages containing more than half a million items. Kaylee’s original goal was to collect and distribute 500,000 discs; the group recently upped its target to 750,000 by the end of 2009.

Packing and shipping costs are covered by fundraisers run by the charity.
