A locally-owned and produced newspaper has started up in Baghdad’s Sadr City with the help of U.S. funds.
Six issues of the newspaper, called “Al Medina,” have been put out so far. A total of 10,000 copies of each issue have been distributed throughout the district.
In cooperation with Provincial Reconstruction Team 3, U.S. Army Maj. Mike Humphreys, a public affairs officer with the 3rd Brigade Combat Team, 4th Infantry Division, offered $25,000 in what is known as “quick reaction” funds to help the men start the newspaper, officials say.
