SEOUL — Pacific Command officials have extended the Combined Federal Campaign contribution deadline to Dec. 15, giving residents an additional 12 days to donate.
Kitty Malcolm-Orr, Pacific CFC director, said Monday that the deadline often is extended to give military commands time to contact 100 percent of their military and civilian workers during the annual drive.
Orr said that while extension requests usually come from South Korea, this year several bases in Japan sought the extra time because of training exercises and inspections.
But Paul Smith, CFC coordinator in Korea, said the extension also could mean several thousand more dollars from troops stationed there.
"Several units are out in the field going through the War Fighter exercise, which complicates the effort to contact everyone," he said.
Federal employees can choose to donate to more than 2,000 charities during the drive.
Orr said it’s the one time of year charities can solicit federal employees at work.
As of Monday, Pacific CFC coordinators had contacted 91.8 percent of the population and collected more than $3.8 million in donations.
In Japan, federal employees have donated more than $2.7 million.
In South Korea, donations have topped $1.1 million.
CFC Pacific also handles contributions from U.S. federal employees in the Kwajalein Atoll, the Philippines, Singapore, Australia and Diego Garcia.
Those interested in donating should contact their unit coordinators, said Smith.
