A U.S. sailor serving in Bahrain has been hospitalized with serious head injuries after falling from the second floor of an apartment building in Juffair, according to a report in the Gulf Daily News.
The newspaper identified the sailor as Michael William Dodson, 23, and said he was taken to Salmaniya Medical Complex.
Millie Slamin, a spokeswoman for Naval Support Activity Bahrain, said Tuesday that information such as the sailor’s rank and his job in Bahrain has not been cleared for public release. His medical status is not releasable by the Navy because it is covered by the privacy act, she said.
The Riviera Plaza apartment building is just outside the main walk-in gate of the Navy base, said Slamin, who added that the incident is under investigation by Naval Criminal Investigative Service agents.
A watchman of the furnished apartment building spotted Dodson as he was taking out garbage, reported the Bahraini paper, which added that Dodson was staying alone in one of the building’s 25 apartments rented to sailors stationed in Bahrain.
