School bus driver stopped after sobriety checkYokosuka Naval Base security personnel stopped a school bus driver Monday after a random field sobriety check led them to believe the driver might have consumed alcohol, base officials said in a statement Thursday.
The incident occurred as the driver attempted to leave the Ikego Housing area for Yokosuka Middle School about 7 a.m., according to the statement.
"Given the mere possibility of intoxication … security took immediate and prudent actions to ensure the safety of the passengers and the bus and to remove the driver’s authorization to drive," the statement said.
Officials did not release the driver’s blood alcohol level but said it was under the legal limit. The driver is prohibited from driving pending further investigation, according to the statement.
All school bus drivers receive training on traffic safety, new or updated traffic laws and drinking and driving, the statement said.
