Two decongestants that were recently subject to a voluntary recall were once sold by the Army and Air Force Exchange Service, but it no longer stocks them, agency officials say.

The Defense Commissary agency announced the recall last week after reports raised concerns over the medications’ health risks and possible overdosing, particularly for children younger than 2.

The medications are PEDIACARE Infant Drops Decongestant, SKU 300097714010, and PEDIACARE Infant Drops Decongestant & Cough, SKU 300097716017.

AAFES issued a press statement indicating the agency had carried the items in the past, but did not indicate how long ago or when they no longer were stocked.

The medicines are safe when used correctly, according to the statement.

But rare patterns of misuse can lead to overdose, particularly in infants less than two years of age, it says.
