The Defense Commissary Agency has removed from store shelves three Banquet brand turkey and chicken pot pies because of possible salmonella contamination, according to a news release.

DeCA pulled the product after a ConAgra Foods Inc. announcement Tuesday that warned consumers not to eat the frozen turkey and chicken pot pies, or generic-brand products bearing the “P-9” notation on the side of the package.

The products include:

Banquet Chicken Broccoli Pot Pie, 7-ounce package, UPC: 03100010100Banquet Chicken Pot Pie, 7-ounce package, UPC: 03100010101Banquet Turkey Pot Pie, 7-ounce package, UPC: 03100010103Salmonella is a bacterium that can cause foodborne illnesses with symptoms such as fever, diarrhea and abdominal cramps. For people in poor health or with weakened immune systems, salmonella can cause life-threatening infections.

Commissary customers can return the product label, including the side panel that contains the code “P-9,” to the store of purchase for a refund, the DeCA release states. They can also send the side panel of the package to ConAgra Foods for a refund to: ConAgra Foods, Dept. BQPP, P.O. Box 3768, Omaha, Neb., 68103-0768.
