A USS Kitty Hawk sailor survived another "Nashville Star" elimination round and is now one of the top 10 contestants in the reality television show.
Tommy Stanley, a machinist’s mate fireman aboard the aircraft carrier, sang "Save A Horse, Ride A Cowboy" by Big & Rich for the show’s June 16 episode. The country music show features singers who vie for a Warner Bros. recording contract.
Some of Stanley’s fellow sailors watched the show aboard Kitty Hawk while the ship was underway in the Western Pacific, according to a release. "He rocked the house," Master Chief Petty Officer Mike Gwinn said in the release. "We’re all behind him."
Stanley, a 23-year-old from Cushing, Okla., got noticed this year during a tryout at Yokosuka’s Officers’ Club.
