RAF MILDENHALL, England — The court-martial of an RAF Alconbury noncommissioned officer charged with child rape, sodomy, rape and assault continued Tuesday with a key witness testifying for several hours.
The witness, who will not be identified in accordance with Stars and Stripes’ policy not to name victims of alleged sexual assault, testified about how Staff Sgt. Joseph A. Spaulding allegedly raped her.
Spaulding allegedly raped and sodomized the victim between March 1 and May 31, 2005, according to Air Force court records.
Spaulding is also charged with assault for various incidents that occurred at RAF Upwood in the United Kingdom in 2005 and at Minot Air Force Base, N.D., in 2002, court records show.
If convicted, Spaulding faces confinement for life, reduction in rank to E-1, forfeiture of pay and a fine.
The victim’s lengthy time on the witness stand follows Monday’s testimony by a 10-year-old girl who was allegedly raped by Spaulding when she was 8.
Spaulding serves with the 423rd Civil Engineering Squadron at RAF Alconbury but is being tried at RAF Mildenhall because he falls under the command of the Mildenhall-based 501st Combat Support Wing.
Air Force officials have refused to release Spaulding’s age, citing policy.
