A pair of Department of Defense Dependents Schools teachers from Germany are finalists in the 2006 Presidential Awards for Excellence in Mathematics and Science Teaching.

Robert Skully, a fourth-grade teacher at Hainerberg Elementary School in Wiesbaden, and Kina Stallings, a sixth-grade mathematics teacher at Heidelberg Middle School in Heidelberg, were selected by the Department of Defense Education Activity, higher headquarters of DODDS- Europe, as finalists for the award, according to a DODDS-Europe news release.

The awards, administered by the National Science Foundation, recognize outstanding mathematics and science teachers from each of the 50 states and from four other U.S. jurisdictions, including Department of Defense schools.

They are considered to be the nation’s highest honors for kindergarten through 12th-grade teachers in these fields, according to the release.

Winners, who will be announced in April, receive a citation signed by the president, a trip to Washington, D.C., a weeklong series of recognition events and professional development seminars, and a $10,000 award.
