Command of Multi-National Division-Central South in Iraq was passed from one Polish major general to another on Wednesday, military officials said Thursday.
During a ceremony at Camp Echo, Maj. Gen. Bronislaw Kwiatkowski handed over command to Maj. Gen. Pawel Lamla.
“Our mission has just finished; we are going home,” Kwiatkowski said.
Eighth Iraqi Army Division troops, who are working with coalition forces in the region, also took part in the ceremony.
Last year, the Polish government extended through the end of 2007 its commitment of about 1,000 troops in Iraq.
