A soldier has been sentenced to eight months in prison for stabbing a fellow soldier with a survival knife, a news release from Multi-National Corps-Iraq says.

Spc. Adam L. Huryta, attached to the 1st Brigade, 34th Infantry Division, was convicted Jan. 22 of assault with a deadly weapon in connection with the incident and also received a bad-conduct discharge and was reduced in rank to E-1, the news release says.

The incident occurred after Huryta was ordered to fill in for his Humvee’s gunner and the vehicle commander confronted him over his “poor attitude,” the news release says.

“Huryta pulled out his survival knife, stabbing the vehicle commander in the chest and thigh,” the news release says.

The soldier Huryta stabbed was treated and returned to duty later that day, the news release says.

The victim’s identity has not been released in accordance with standard operating procedure, said MNC-I spokeswoman Lt. Col. Josslyn Aberle.

Further information was unavailable late Wednesday Baghdad time.
