An English court sentenced an RAF Lakenheath airman to two years in prison Tuesday for killing two people in a November 2005 car crash along the A421 carriageway near Kempston.
Master Sgt. Michael Agnew, 40, pleaded guilty to both charges of causing death by dangerous driving when he failed to return to the other side of the road after he overtook another vehicle, Luton Crown Court spokeswoman Carolyn Shirley said Wednesday.
His vehicle collided head-on with a vehicle carrying Wendy Brooks and her 17-year-old daughter Kayleigh Billington.
Brooks died at the scene of the crash and her daughter died later at a local hospital, local newspapers reported.
Agnew, an F-15 jet fighter maintenance chief from the 48th Component Maintenance Squadron, was sent to Bedford prison following his sentencing.
He also received a three-year driving ban, Shirley said.
Commanders at RAFs Lakenheath and Mildenhall ban Air Force members from overtaking other vehicles on the narrow roads surrounding both bases.
However, other English roads outside its restriction zones do not fall under current regulations, an RAF Lakenheath spokeswoman said Wednesday.
