HEIDELBERG, Germany — The command surgeon for Multi-National Forces-Iraq was among the 12 people killed when a Black Hawk helicopter crashed near Baghdad last weekend.
Col. Brian D. Allgood had been serving in Iraq for six months before the crash Saturday northeast of Baghdad. His job was to oversee medical practices and policies for the Multi-National Force, advising the MNF-I commanding general.
An orthopedic surgeon, Allgood had been assigned to the 30th Medical Brigade in Heidelberg just before he left for Iraq. His family lives in Heidelberg. A private memorial service was scheduled for Friday at the Patrick Henry Village Chapel.
Allgood’s uncle, Dr. Richard Allgood of Lawton, Okla., said his nephew was a quiet, intelligent man whose family had a long history of serving in the military and becoming doctors, according to The Associated Press. In a previous assignment, Allgood, 46, commanded the 18th MEDCOM on Yongsan Garrison in Seoul, South Korea. Investigators probing the crash scene found evidence it may have been shot down.
