SEOUL — Two civilian jets landed at Kunsan Air Base last week after being diverted from Incheon International Airport because of heavy fog, according to a U.S. Air Force news release.
One Korean Airline Boeing 747, carrying 274 people, landed Wednesday because a 65-year-old Korean passenger needed immediate medical attention.
Air Force personnel stabilized the man and arranged to have him transported to the nearby Kunsan Medical Center, according to the release. The release did not state why the man needed medical assistance.
“It all went pretty smooth,” Col. Joe Ortega, 8th Medical Group commander, was quoted in the release as saying. “We had the ambulance respond to the scene, a Korean nurse to help translate and fire rescue responded quickly to get this individual out (of the aircraft). It all went like clockwork.”
The Air Force provided other passengers bottled water.
The other Boeing 747, a cargo plane, also was diverted to Kunsan the same day, according to the release.
