German army Gen. Egon Ramms will take command Jan. 26 of NATO’s Allied Joint Force Command Brunssum in The Netherlands.
Ramms will replace Gen. Gerhard W. Back of the German air force, who is retiring.
Ramms will command multinational units that comprise the International Security Assistance Force in Kabul, Afghanistan, as well as the current NATO Response Force.
About 1,000 military and civilian personnel from 23 nations work at JFC Brunssum. Ramms will report to Gen. Bantz J. Craddock, supreme allied commander in Europe.
JFC Brunssum is one of NATO’s two joint operational commands; the other is in Naples, Italy, with Joint Forces Headquarters in Lisbon, Portugal.
