A detachment of Seabees with Naval Construction Battalion 3 have been off and running since their arrival to Chinhae, South Korea, on Dec. 18.
Detail Chinhae, based out of Port Hueneme, Calif., with the rest of NMCB-3, who currently are deployed to Okinawa, are working on a two-story barracks project and constructing a concrete staircase on a steep slope.
Petty Officer 1st Class Thomas Allen, lead quality control petty officer, said, “Our guys really have their work cut out for them. But they are determined to get the job done.”
Construction isn’t the only thing the Chinhae detail is building.
They’re also working their bodies, said detail commander Lt. Justin Spinks, who added he is confident they will exceed their fitness level expectations.
During physical training, they run hills “boot-camp style,” take classes in the gym and do push-ups until the sun rises, he said.
Petty Officer 3rd Class Brian Prime admitted, “This is the hardest PT I’ve done in my life.”
