A USS Frank Cable sailor charged last month with vehicular homicide is due in court Wednesday for an arraignment proceeding, according to Guam Superior Court.

The sailor, Fireman Kevin Michael Jackson Jr., 20, was being held by Guam authorities on $50,000 bail.

Jackson was arrested Dec. 23 on charges of vehicular homicide, driving under the influence, driving under the influence with a blood-alcohol content over 0.08 percent, driving under the influence with injuries, and reckless driving, according to court and police officials.

A bicyclist, Raymond Someros Oberiano, 39, died following the crash near Polaris Point.

A court appearance last week was cancelled, according to the court.

Yokota schools to hold ‘Let’s Talk’ conferenceYOKOTA AIR BASE, Japan — The Yokota Air Base School Advisory Committee will be holding a “Let’s Talk” conference for parents and educators Jan. 18 from 6:30 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. at the Yokota Middle School multipurpose room.

The program will feature a variety of presentations from the base hospital’s pediatric clinic, school psychologists, Family Advocacy, the school liaison’s office and the Airman and Family Readiness Center.

Topics to be covered include childhood obesity and adolescent substance abuse.

The Yokota Middle School Honor Society will provide childcare for the event. Parents of home-schooled children also are welcome to attend. Parents do not need to sign up for the event.

Martin Luther King ceremony at Red CloudCAMP RED CLOUD, South Korea — A Martin Luther King Jr. celebration will be hosted by Area I and the 2nd Infantry Division at 10 a.m. on Friday at the Camp Red Cloud Theater.

Los Palominos to performCAMP RED CLOUD, South Korea — Grammy Award winners Los Palominos will be touring South Korea bases from Thursday through Jan. 18 as part of a United Service Organizations tour.

The Tejano band will perform at Camp Casey’s Gateway Club on Sunday at 7 p.m. For other locations, call the USO at DSN 724-3301.

In 2006 the band released a greatest hits album on Univision/Urbana titled “Evoluciones,” which includes 13 of their past hits, plus two new tracks.

Daegu, Carroll remember Dr. KingA commemoration of Martin Luther King Jr. is set for 10 a.m. Wednesday at Camp Walker’s Evergreen Club from 7 a.m. to 8:15 a.m.

A breakfast buffet will cost $8 per person.

The scheduled guest speaker is Lt. Col. Charles R. Hamilton, commander of the 498th Command Sustainment Support Battalion.

A similar event is set for Camp Carroll on Friday from 7 a.m. to 8:15 a.m. at the Camp Carroll Dining Facility.

‘Nutcracker’ performance in DaeguPYEONGTAEK, South Korea — A musical performance featuring “The Nutcracker” is scheduled for 3 p.m. Jan. 28 at the Dong-gu Cultural Center in Daegu.

Tickets will cost 20,000 won (about $21.35) for an “R” seat and 15,000 won (about $16) for an “S” seat.

Proceeds are to benefit needy children, according to the U.S. military in Daegu.
