HAVERHILL — Suffolk authorities are investigating an armed robbery at a betting shop on New Year’s Day. Shortly before 4:30 p.m. on Jan. 1, a man wearing all black and a pair of sunglasses entered the Ladbroke’s bookmakers shop on Jubilee Walk carrying a white walking stick, according to a Suffolk Constabulary news release.
He pulled a handgun at the counter and demanded money, authorities said. He locked three people in a restroom and escaped with an undisclosed amount of money.

Four arrested after police officer beatenNORWICH — Four men have been arrested following the beating of a part-time police officer outside of a Norfolk pub on New Year’s Eve, authorities said.
The four men, who range in age from 18 to 26, were released on bail pending further questioning and were not identified by police, according to a Norfolk Constabulary news release.
The 31-year-old victim was beaten repeatedly on the head in the parking lot of the Rivergarden Pub on Yarmouth Road, authorities said. The victim, who police did not identify, is recovering in a hospital.

Laptop, cash taken from tool storeWOKINGHAM — Thames Valley police are appealing for witnesses to a burglary at a business over the New Year’s holiday weekend.
The break-in occurred between 11:30 a.m. on Dec. 30 and 8:30 a.m. on Jan. 2 at GPR Tools on Nash Grove Lane, according to a Thames Valley news release.
The suspect made off with a laptop, cash and compact discs containing business data, the Thames Valley Police said. Authorities are looking for a white van that was seen in the area on Dec. 30.
