YOKOSUKA NAVAL BASE, Japan — The USS Kitty Hawk sailor struck by a car Dec. 27 was moved from a Japanese hospital to an on-base medical facility last weekend.
Petty Officer 3rd Class John Richard Wagner, 24, is in “stable but critical condition” at U.S. Naval Hospital Yokosuka, a hospital official said Thursday.
Wagner was hit by a car driven by a Japanese man around 11 p.m. in the Route 16 intersection near the base’s Womble Gate. Driver Akimasa Kasai, 42, of Yokosuka, was not arrested as Kanagawa prefectural police determined that alcohol and speeding were not factors in the accident.
After the accident, Wagner was taken by ambulance to Kyosai Hospital with fractures to his head and neck, a police spokesman said.
