Wilmer Valderrama, one of the stars of the TV show “That ’70s Show,” is bringing his MTV program, “Yo Momma,” to Germany this week.
“Yo Momma,” a trash-talking competition that airs on MTV, will be performed Thursday in Hohenfels, Friday in Stuttgart and Saturday in Ramstein.
But for a while, it looked as though it might not happen.
The program features young people squaring off with insults.
Some of the barbs are relatively tame: “Yo momma is so dumb, she heard there was a serial killer on the loose, so she went home and hid all the Cheerios.”
Some are in questionable taste: “That girl is so ugly, anorexic chicks look at her when they want to throw up.”
Others are just plain vulgar. So the shows are being billed as adult only.
Valderrama and some cast members will be exchanging the putdowns themselves.
“The original concept was that they were going to come in and audition soldiers and have a competition, and film it for MTV,” said Joanne Love, special events coordinator and entertainment director for Army Garrison Hohenfels.
“Somewhere along the line, some eagles got involved and decided it was not the right image for service people, and that there might be some people who’d be offended who have to work with each other.”
Love said the command at Hohenfels is prepared to adapt to whatever takes place at its show, which is scheduled for 7 p.m. Thursday at The Zone.
George DeGrella, the Europe/Balkans regional coordinator for Armed Forces Entertainment, which is presenting the shows along with the USO, said the shows were nearly canceled.
“It was going to be nationally televised and going to go back to States, and it was decided that we didn’t really want to show troops at a base, talking about each other’s mothers,” DeGrella said.
Valderrama is also scheduled to make personal appearances, including Friday at 4 p.m. at the PowerZone at Stuttgart’s Patch Barracks and during the day on Saturday at Landstuhl Regional Medical Center.
