RAF LAKENHEATH, England — Officials at RAF Lakenheath are warning commuters to be ready for traffic backups at the fighter base this weekend as workers close the main access gate for improvements.
Lakenheath’s Gate 1 will be closed from 6 p.m. Friday until 5 a.m. Monday for repaving and line-painting as part of a larger project to improve security and traffic flow at the access point, said base spokesman Airman 1st Class Michael Hess.
All traffic onto the base will be routed through Gate 2 during the closure, Hess said.
Base officials this week circulated notices advising people of possible traffic delays in Eriswell and Lakenheath village, plus backups at large intersections on base and congestion at Gate 2.

Well, if you were at Andrews Air Force Base, Md., on Thursday, you might’ve gotten a sniff. Dwayne Douglas Johnson, who played The Rock on World Wrestling Entertainment for years, hosted a special preview of his new movie at the base theater.
Johnson introduced the movie, according to an Army and Air Force Exchange Service news release, as part of AAFES’ “distributor appreciation” series of screenings.
