RAF LAKENHEATH, England — A Lakenheath school principal who was pulled from his duties by Department of Defense Dependents’ Schools administrators without explanation in May has been reassigned to an elementary school in the Heidleberg District, according to a DODDS spokesman.
William Hunter, the former Liberty Intermediate School principal at RAF Lakenheath, has been reassigned to Butzbach Elementary School near Giessen, Germany, said Dennis Bohannon, DODDS-Europe spokesman.
Hunter will be replaced by his former assistant principal, Kent Warford, Bohannon said.
In May, Hunter received a “temporary reassignment” from the district superintendent while allegations of misconduct made against him by someone outside the school were investigated by officials from the Department of Defense Education Activity.
In June, school officials said those allegations had been “substantiated,” and announced that Hunter would not return as principal.
DODDS has refused to reveal the nature of the allegations against Hunter since they arose in May, with officials saying only that they did not pertain to any danger to LIS students.
On Friday, Bohannon reiterated that, because of privacy concerns, he could not discuss the details of the allegations.
“From this end, I can’t say anything,” he said. The reassignment to Germany, he said, constituted an “appropriate disciplinary action,” commensurate to the accusations.
“Sometimes errors in judgment are made and appropriate actions are taken,” Bohannon wrote in a statement to Stars and Stripes. “Nonetheless, Mr. Hunter remains a valuable asset to — and a part of the DoDDS-Europe team. His talents, experience, and dedication to our students is too valuable to be lost.”
